Day 7: Speak On the Intercom

Day 4: Ask to speak over the Old Navy intercom

It’s officially one week of getting rejected! It went by pretty fast and I was really proud of myself for staying consistent. Jia Jiang had originally done this challenge in Costco, but 1) I didn’t have a membership there and 2) I was coming home from an internship event so I wasn’t near one.

I evaluated the stores in the shopping center and decided to give Old Navy a try. I figured they would be the nicest and that I might even have a chance getting a yes there. I walked in and saw a young woman standing at the register. The store was pretty empty, aside from the typical mother-daughter duos shopping. I could have gone up right away but the fact that it was quiet made me even more nervous.

I decided to shop around for a little because I had nothing else to do and was enjoying the environment. Also, don’t sleep on Old Navy!! Their workout clothes were so cute & they had some good deals… just saying.

I picked out a $2 top to lessen the blow of the rejection. I walked up to the counter, checked out and started asking the questions. First I asked if they even had an intercom and she wasn’t sure if there was anything besides a speaker. Great.

I told her it was my dream to speak over one. I said I just wanted to wish everyone a beautiful day and she agreed and said that would be so nice.

“Soooo can I?”

She didn’t make me feel weird at all for asking. Without missing a beat, she offered me her walkie talkie and told me I could say it over that to their employees instead.

I was in SHOCK. This was my first yes and I wasn’t prepared. I leaned into the mic and wished everyone a beautiful day :))

We both smiled- it was such a wholesome interaction. I thanked her and told her how much appreciated it. It seemed to make her happy too.

I was so excited when I got in the car. This was proof that if you just ask, you never know what will come out of it. Thank you to her & Old Navy <3
