Day 8: Take a Picture with a Dog for Tinder

Day 8: Ask to take a picture with someone’s dog for my Tinder profile

The original task for today was Black Friday related so I decided to switch it up.

I asked TikTok to comment a rejection task and the one with the most likes would win. The comments started coming in and I was nervous to find out the results. When I woke up in the morning, there was a clear winner.

I had to ask someone if I could take a picture with their dog for my Tinder Profile. It scared me slightly, but I was confident that I could do it.

I watched over my balcony to see when people would be out walking their dogs. When I finally saw multiple dogs, I decided to go downstairs.

Of course, once I got down there all dogs were gone.

I spent the next hour walking around the area in search of a dog. It was a ghost town. The only dog I saw was one with an owner who had large headphones on- I didn’t want to chase her down and interrupt.

My time was running out though, I had to go to classes the rest of the day and wasn’t going to have time to film. By the time I got home, it was dark and I accepted it wasn’t going to happen. I felt guilty taking the day off and just hoped nobody would notice or be disappointed.

Part 2:

The next day I was out for an appointment and I had the idea to stop by a park on the way home. Surely, there would be plenty of dogs there. I hyped myself up and was excited to do it!

Within 5 minutes of being there, I had already passed a dozen dogs and didn’t ask. Uh oh. Similar to day 1, with each person I saw, I had an excuse of why I couldn’t ask them. They had headphones in, they looked unapproachable, I couldn’t tell if their dog was friendly, they would judge the fact that it was for Tinder, etc.

All projections were coming from fear. They were excuses to make myself feel better about being to scared to ask. I’m sure I could have gone up to any person there and it would have been fine.

But as the time passed, I quickly realized this was going to be a lot harder than I thought. I walked for a mile before finally sitting down and feeling defeated.

I watched numerous dogs walk by. I even PET a dog, asked it’s name, made small talk with the owner, and STILL couldn’t get myself to ask to take a picture.

My phone was dying, I was sweating, and I was losing hope. I knew I wasn’t leaving without accomplishing this though. I got back up and made another lap around the park. I saw a lady who had stopped to talk to another dog owner and decided she was the one. I started walking towards her direction and when we were finally about to cross paths, I blurted it out.

I prefaced it by saying “I know it’s weird”, which for some reason made me feel a lot better. She enthusiastically said yes before I even had to give an explanation. (Of course I still gave her one though) I told her a dog would make me look more friendly and approachable on Tinder. She agreed and seemed more than happy to help me out.

She took pictures of me and Boo (the doggies name) which actually turned out so cute and made my day. I had never felt more relieved to complete a task. Her kindness made my day and even though she’ll probably never see this, thank you I appreciate it :)
